Dederang Primary School is 48km south of Wodonga on the Kiewa Valley Highway in the picturesque Kiewa Valley.
The school boasts a superb rural setting, nestled among the famous Kiewa Valley dairy farms and with stunning views of Mt Bogong and the Alps.
The school serves the communities of Dederang, Upper Gundowring, Glen Creek, Kancoona and Kerguny
The school has followed a master plan which emphasizes the heritage and character of the school, but ensures students are able to access equipment and materials for 21st Century Learning. Our active parents’ club works to ensure that facilities in our school are not wanting. In addition to our purpose built double classroom, we have a specialist art room, fully equipped music room, library, gymnasium and a staff room with cooking facilities, for children to access in their learning. For school functions and our Friday sausage sizzle we have a beautiful outdoor kitchen with bbq.
Each child has access to a computer to assist and support them with their learning. The school enjoys reverse cycle air-conditioning throughout. The school has an intergrated kinder and a space purposely set up for our Out of School Hours Care Program.
Behind our striking blue wren, when visitors come to our school, they will note our spacious and welcoming school grounds. They consist of a flat grassed area, a sloping area, paved and covered area, an asphalt games area, shaded play ground, sandpit equipment area and vegetable garden. A shallow and hugely popular fenced creek runs down the northwest side of the grounds.
In 2017 we created a Mindfulness Garden. The project includes native plants, a giant chess set, a reflection path and nature inspired garden ornaments.
For 2018 we plan to complete our chicken coop project and enhance our vegetable garden.
When appropriate we tap into our immediate environment to support student engagement with learning, particularly in our specialist science programs that are offered through our interdisciplinary approach to theme investigations. We are committed to caring for our rural environment, and host regular community working bees to ensure the grounds are maintained, providing safe play areas.
